You can be part of Ontario’s growing green energy movement. If you are a homeowner, farmer or small business owner, or you manage an institution like a school or a church, you have the opportunity to develop a “micro” renewable
electricity generation project (10 kilowatts or less in size) on your property and be paid for all the electricity you produce through
Ontario’s microFIT Program
Under this program you will be paid a guaranteed price over a 20-year term for all the electricity you produce and deliver to the province’s electricity grid.
Get paid for the power you produce, with prices that: are designed to cover the costs of a typical project – purchase, installation, connection, operating and maintenance allow you to earn a reasonable rate of return on your investment over the term of your contract.
Contribute to a healthier environment by: generating electricity from renewable sources – solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, water and bioenergy helping to replace coal-fired generation across the province by 2014 and reduce greenhouse gases and other pollutants being part of the largest climate change initiative in North America and it’s happening right here in Ontario.
Help to create new local businesses and green jobs: as demand rises for technologies such as solar panels, wind turbines and biomass, more Ontarians will be needed to design, build, install, operate and maintain these technologies.
How to get involved
The OPA has designed the microFIT Program to allow for the development of micro-scale projects through a range of participation opportunities.
Each participation arrangement has different benefits and different risks that you should consider before proceeding with your project.
These are the different participation opportunities from which you can choose.
Owning your project
Purchase and we will install your microFIT project.
Leasing your roof
Allow a developer to install and own a microFIT project on your property.
Leasing equipment
Lease the equipment and install your own microFIT project.
Projects in your neighbourhood
Join a community of people in your neighbourhood to build and install a microFIT project that is collectively owned.
